If you don’t know by now, WordPress 2.8.4 has hit the public and it addresses a mild but hugely annoying issue. There was no advanced warning regarding the vulnerability but it was quickly patched in the core of WordPress for the next release. Unfortunately, word quickly spread and in […] Continue Reading…

Yahoo Spins Off Blo.gs To Automattic: WordPress parent company Automattic has bought the blo.gs pinging and blog trackback service from Yahoo. Sounds like a good deal for everyone involved, including Yahoo’s recent attempts at tearing down their “Wall of Shame” of failed products. Matt has more details and so does Toni.

On the evening of Tuesday, January 27th, I had the pleasure to converse with Michael Pick, an employee of Automattic and also the guy behind the newly launched WordPress.TV. WordPress.TV is a new website which aggregates all sorts of WordPress content in video form. The site has already made a name for itself by showcasing many of the videos from recent WordCamps. Here is just a sampling of what we discussed during the show.
Here are some of the questions we covered on the show:
What is the purpose of WordPress.TV?
How did WordPress.TV reach fruition?
Will WordPress.TV feature content created by people other than Automattic?
What do you plan on doing with videos that seemingly disappear?
Can someone suggest a video that is produced with a language other than English?
If there were any plans to let the videos be downloadable or even a podcast?
Are WordPress.tv videos released under the GPL? Would love to […]

When WordPress 2.3 was released into the wild, one of the new features was an update notification which told you when there was a new version of WordPress or a plugin available for download. This was possible thanks to the API service called api.wordpress.org. Earlier this year, I had the privilege of attending WordCamp Dallas where WordPress 2.5 was unveiled to the world. I’ll personally never forget that day, but when Matt showcased the automatic plugin upgrader, it confirmed my suspicions back when 2.3 was released as to where at least some aspects of WordPress were headed.
During some downtime at the event, I pulled Matt aside and asked if him if the team was going to end up heavily using the API to not only upgrade plugins, but upgrade the core and also install themes. I don’t remember exactly what he said, but never the less, that is indeed where […]

Not 21 years old, but that is now the number of people employed by Automattic. As was reported by Ed Sutherland of ProBlogNews.com, Automattic has hired Warwick Poole, former director of systems at Vidavee which was recently acquired by Vignette. According to his job title as “Systemologist” Warwick will be in control of.
Keeping the barriers to online publishing low, by scaling the infrastructure which runs Wordpress.org, Wordpress.com, Akismet.com and other related projects.
But that wasn’t enough for me. I sent Warwick an email containing a few questions regarding his title, as well as his role within Automattic. Here are his responses.
Jeff - First off, congratulations on becoming the 21st employee for Automattic.
Warwick - Thanks, I am very pleased to be involved with Automattic.
Jeff - Mind telling us how this all came about?
Warwick - I am a longtime WordPress user. So I have known about the company for a while. I found […]
