Run Hotfix for Supplemental WordPress Updates

Posted by admin in WordPress, Wordpress... | 12.18.2011 - 10:00 pm

Did you know that there’s a plugin for almost anything on WordPress? What if you wanted your bugs to be fixed before the next WordPress release? Well, there’s even a plugin for that, and it’s called Hotfix.
Hotfix is a powerfully yet simple plugin. Just keep it active and up to date to receive important bug fixes between official WordPress releases. For WordPress 3.3, Hotfix already prevents “plugin and theme styles from bleeding into the dashboard” and works around “a bug for people without built-in JSON support.”
Hotfix is not an official plugin, so it’s not an excuse to stop updating, but it’s safe to run between updates as it’s developed by two of the lead WordPress developers using fixes that are already prepared for the next official release.
If you aren’t running Hotfix yet, now’s the perfect time to install it.

    WordPress Updates Via Plugins?

Posted by admin in WordPress, Wordpress... | 03.25.2011 - 9:00 pm

Two very interest WordPress plugins have debuted recently. Both are built by core WordPress developers, both offer a way to push specific updates to the WordPress core through a simple plugin as opposed to a full WordPress update, and they do it safely without modifying any core files.

Hotfix – “This unofficial plugin provides fixes for selected WordPress bugs, so you don’t have to wait for the next WordPress core release.”
UI Labs – “UI Labs is a plugin that offers experimental WordPress admin UI features with the aim of building upon and enhancing the default WordPress User Interface.”

I must admit, the two are rather intriguing. Hotfix offers immediate fixes to certain bugs that may not be addressed until the next core update, while UI Labs offers a sneak peek at some of the upcoming design improvements. I especially like the fact that, unlike core updates, these plugins don’t modify the core […]

      Hotfix Released for WordPress 3.0.5

Posted by admin in WordPress, Wordpress... | 02.09.2011 - 10:00 pm

A tiny bug made its way into the recent release of WordPress 3.0.5. The release did fix the security issue that it was intended to fix, but it was a bit overzealous and “stripped advanced HTML (on display, not save, thankfully) from comments by people with the unfiltered_html capability.”
This particular bug has been deemed a rare case, and the developers would prefer to focus on 3.1 than release yet another 3.0.x update, but they were able to sneak a hotfix for the bug into the latest release of Akismet (2.5.3).
A new plugin, appropriately titled Hotfix has also been released to fix this particular bug and select future bugs as they pop up, “so you don’t have to wait for the next WordPress core release.” Think of it as a dedicated plugin for minor WordPress updates.
