About a month ago I posted about how fast WordPress 3.0 was being downloaded and there was a terrific discussion about the sheer amount of data that was being grabbed to get at the 3.0 version of WordPress. We even had some comments as to why it was being downloaded at that scale.
Well as of today the download counter reads that it has been downloaded just over 10.3 million times since it was released last month and the counter keeps rolling along!
So what is it that makes the WordPress platform so popular? What is it that drives people to download it over 10 million times?
If you had the opportunity to talk to a non WordPress user what would you tell them about it to show that it is worth downloading and putting to use for a website?

Back in October, we told you about the new compatibility box that was added to the plugin pages within the repository. However, we’ve learned that this feature has one major drawback which is the crux behind this idea proposed by shinephp.
I propose to add the field e.g. ‘Problem description’ required for input if visitor click ‘Broken’ button in the Compatibility widget.
I’ve talked with a number of plugin developers and they have all said the same thing. The compatibility box is useless if feedback can not be tied to the rating. Sure, a support topic can be opened for the plugin but there is nothing tying that forum post to the broken rating. Mark Jaquith weighed in with an even better idea.
They should get a chance (or a mandate) to provide feedback, and that feedback should open a new support thread.

It seemed that the most popular way to keep track of ideas for blog entries is by using the built in draft functionality of WordPress. WordPress Ideas is used as a central location where users of WordPress from all across the world share their ideas on how to improve the software, plugins to integrate, etc. At this time, the idea of Easy Updating Of WordPress leads the pack with 910 votes and a rating of five stars. As it turns out, this will be one of the features in WordPress 2.7 known as Core Upgrade. Next on the list is Open ID Integration. Although there are plenty of plugins that easily provide this functionality, considering the amount of steam the idea has, I wouldn’t be surprised to see it in a future version of WordPress.
