Posterous Acquired by Twitter

Posted by admin in WordPress, Blogging ... | 03.15.2012 - 10:00 pm

Posterous, a popular hosted blogging platform, has been acquired by Twitter. The team behind Posterous assures that the service will not be disrupted, but will give “ample notice if [they] make any changes to the service,” and Sachin Agarwal (Posterous founder and CEO) is now a Product Manager for Twitter. It is not yet clear if Twitter intends to make use of the Posterous service or if this acquisition was intended to just bring the talent behind Posterous to Twitter’s ever-growing platform.
If you’re concerned about the future of your Posterous Space, it’s not too late to switch to a self-hosted WordPress installation (where you have full control over your content) with this importer. If you prefer a hosted environment, like Posterous, you can move to WordPress.com following this handy guide.

      Posted by admin in WordPress, Blogging ... | 03.16.2009 - 6:54 pm

Some of you may remember that back on January 15th, I asked if you had ever published a blog post via email. Many of you in the comments let me know that you enjoyed using Postie but wished it contained some of the same features that are found with the Posterous service.
According to Robert Felty who has taken over development of the plugin, the new version of Postie enables the following:
Postie offers many advanced features for posting to your blog via e-mail, including the ability to assign categories by name, included pictures and videos, and automatically strip off signatures. It also has support for both imap and pop3, with the option for ssl with both.

The latest version which is 1.1.5 contains the following feature set:

Added option to have postie posts be pending review, published, or draft
Settings panel only shows up for administrators
Need not be user “admin” […]

        Do You Post By Email?

        Posted by admin in WordPress, Blogging ... | 01.15.2009 - 3:37 pm

There are a number of options available to publish articles to your blog outside of your WordPress Write panel such as through XML-RPC via a third party blogging client or through an application such as the one available for the iPhone. However, did you know that you can also publish posts through email? It’s true! The feature has been around for quite some time. For how long I’m not sure because I was unable to track down when it became a core feature but it looks like it has been around since 1.5 or below.

For directions on how to use this unique feature, I recommend reading this comprehensive article on the Codex entitled Blog By Email. Posting by email in WordPress is limited to pretty much text only. Common HTML tags are stripped and attachments that are sent with the email will appear in their raw form in the blog […]
